Dreams
do come true part.1 (My trip experience to Johannesburg-Ellis park stadium Springboks vs. All Blacks Game )
As our traveling taxi approached the garage
in which we anxiously waited at, reality glimpsed in that I really made to the
trip to Johannesburg to watch one of history’s most interesting derby the game
between New Zealand and Springboks, and all the other students were sharing the
same mutual feeling of excitement including Mr Frederic's our photojournalism
lecturer; we started the day by recording videos on how we felt about the game
and the trip and everybody’s response reflected on the excitement of being in
one stadium with “ Amabhoko-bhoko” and the All blacks. Our trip began as we
passed towns and admiring the beauty of nature and the natural landscape of the
mountains travelling through 3 provinces in one day from Eastern Cape via
Orange Free state acknowledging the charm of the orange river as we passed the
bridge that separates the Eastern cape and the Free state with still a few
hundred kilometers to travel to Johannesburg the anticipated destination. As we
approached Gauteng the Vaal River welcomed us with its glossy and glittering
appearance as the sunset almost seemed like a fairytale and this magnificent
view justified how I was feeling about the Rugby game and meeting my favorite
sport stars and I silently had a prayer Thanking God for Mr.Oregan Hoskins for such
that my childhood dream was finally coming true. Who would have ever thought
from watching rugby in our schools and community as we grew up and imagining yourself in a
stadium that I would not only be watching the game but I shook hands and took
photos with South Africa’s gigantic sportsmen: ” The Springboks”. The day of
the game came and God knows how I was feeling as we walked towards the pass
gates of the stadium seeing thousands of Rugby fanatics and supporters in their
favorites teams gear to show support, the amazing feeling and atmosphere that
was surrounding me was extraordinary nothing like how I imagined watching it
from television and seeing it live from a seat away from the field where the
game was taking place Wow! An experience
of a lifetime in a million years, watching the grand opening was like winning
and wanting to actually see with my naked eye the All Blacks doing their Hakka!.
The most touching moment was when Joost Van der Oosthuizen a former bokkie
player came to the field for guard of honor in a wheelchair and try to stand
from it and taking a few steps on the ground in which he used to play in, I’m
certain that moment gave the Springboks a very strong comeback against the All
blacks leading them to win the game and that sealed our trip with plenty
celebrations that took place in Gauteng celebrating their victory. I’d like to
thank Mr. Hoskins and the South African Rugby Union for such a wonderful
opportunity and hoping that it can provide the same platform for other students
in our field of study as it enhances our knowledge and interest in the world of
rugby.
With gratitude.
